The story
From A Soccer Injury To Fifteen Years Of Coaching
April 1, 2026 · 6 min read · Ben Brannigan
I have always been into sports and fitness. That part was never a decision, it was just how I was built. Then I got injured playing soccer, and everything I thought I knew about training got taken apart and rebuilt from the floor up.
The part nobody warns you about
An injury is not only a physical event. It takes your identity out from under you. One week you are the person who trains, the next you are the person who watches. I went through my journey through college in that state, and the thing that carried me was not a program printout. It was coaches who paid attention, told me the truth about timelines, and kept me pointed forward when I could not see the point.
“Always been into sports and fitness, got injured playing soccer and then started my journey through college and learned from my recovery and my coaches in recovery that lead me to wanting to help and coach others now and give back.”
What recovery taught me about programming
Rehab is personalization taken to its logical end. Nobody rehabs a knee off a generic template, because the tissue tells you what it can take and you listen or you set yourself back a month. That habit of listening is the single thing I carried into general coaching, and it is why my sessions are all personalized to each client and no one has the same program.
Recovery also taught me that the mental side is not a soft add-on. The days you show up flat are the days the plan is really tested. That is why I coach the whole person, mental performance, fitness and nutrition, and why I went and got certified and qualified in all of the above instead of outsourcing two thirds of the problem.
Why give back
Because somebody did it for me first. I know exactly what it is worth to have a person in your corner who is not impressed by your excuses and is not going to give up on you either. Fifteen years later that is still the job description.
What that means if you hire me
- You get a program built off your history, including the injuries you think are irrelevant. They are not.
- You get honest timelines, in weeks and months, not slogans.
- You get a coach who tracks the mental side and the food side, because they decide whether the training sticks.
- You get someone who stays in it with you when the week goes badly, which it will.
If you have tried programs before and they did not hold, I do not think that is a character flaw. I think you were handed somebody else's plan. Let us build yours instead.
